Hi! I’m Jana, the face behind photography 2204, and I’m so thrilled you’re here. I am a photographer, wife, mother, and a cookbook junkie. I adore reading, Ikea, sushi, and I can’t survive without my morning coffee. Autumn is my favourite season. I love shadows playing against the light, texture and images that make you feel – whether it’s a teary child you want to hug, or a silly face that makes you laugh, or even a scrumptious cake that makes your mouth water.
As a lover of organization and structure, I seek out ways to balance the chaos in my life. Photography allows me to capture moments of quiet in the midst of the noise that is surrounding me. I am fickle and temperamental, and my work may reflect that in subject, as I’m just as likely to photograph a piece of fruit as I am a child’s first day of school, but regardless of the subject, my photos are genuine. Negative space, few distractions, and images that are clean and REAL soothe me.
My hope is that when they are older, my children will have these photographs to hold in their hands, to look at and reminisce about all the minutes that made their childhood. I take pictures because time is moving too quickly, and I never want to forget the birthdays and the bandaids and the cupcakes and all the things that make up each day. I want them to have something tangible to help them remember how much fun we had, the places we went, the games we played, the books we read and the love we shared.
