I had the good fortune of documenting a slice of a day for this beautiful family back in June (you can see their blog post here).  Their sweet little boy finally joined the family a couple weeks later, and I was holding my breath waiting for the call to come visit!

There is something so magical about watching a family, whether it’s a family of 3, or 4, or 10, welcome a new baby into their lives and routines.  I get a special joy knowing that I was able to freeze those little moments, because as a parent, it’s shocking how quickly you forget just how TINY babies are!  I watch parents post proud photos of their baby weeks after visiting them, and I’m stunned at the changes in baby <3

Baby K is soft, and sweet and deliciously wrinkly <3  He has the most adorable, tiny knees, and big beautiful eyes.  The best part, though, is he has a crazy fabulous and adoring sister.

The sound from this bowl was so incredibly soothing. I love to see clients include rituals that are so special to their family in their sessions <3

Well hello there bright eyes!

PINPINPIN

This little girl has so much character packed into her tiny body.  I could watch her all day.  Plus she is such a big helper.

PINPIN

It’s not always easy to go from the one and only to part of bigger family.  I know that a mama’s (and daddy’s) heart just grows bigger, and there is more than enough love to go around, but when you’re small, the changes can be hard sometimes.

PIN

I cannot possibly tell you how much I love that this mama let me capture her nursing baby K.  No matter how you choose to feed your baby, it’s such an amazing connection, and one I miss now that my littles are bigger.  I’m so glad she will have these images to hold on to when baby is bigger.

PINPIN

Character, right?  Awesome.

PINPIN

Mama will always have time for her baby girl.

PIN

I love seeing how proud this daddy is.

PIN

Haha, I love this.  Music is such a HUGE part of this family.  Baby K will be rockin’ out soon, I’m sure.

PIN

This is probably my favourite image from this session.

PIN

Never a shortage of fun here 😉

PINPINPINPINPINPINPINPINPIN

The perfect way to end the session – a quiet, sweet moment between mother and son.  This little boy is so lucky to be born into such a beautiful family.

Welcome to the world little one <3  Enjoy your adventure!

How lucky am I to still have these talented, beautiful women in my life.  This year we celebrated 2 years of learning and loving photography together after meeting in a beginner’s photography class at Clickin Moms.  I’m in awe of how much their work has grown, and I have loved watching their individual styles emerge.

This month’s colour is blue!  Blue is my absolute favourite colour of all (although truth be told, the shades I love the most are aquas and I kind of used those up for our teal month 😉 ).

And our month wouldn’t be complete without sharing the collage of all our work together <3

Each month, on the 7th, I join a group of photographers as we each tell a story from our month using only seven photographs.

Summer means s’mores.  This year, we lucked out and dh was off work on Canada Day.  We splurged and ordered pizza from a FABULOUS local place called European Bakery on Simpson St. – if you haven’t had a chance to try them, definitely do so!  Scrumptious breads, delicious pizza, fantastic friendly service, and you can prepay for slices and put sticky notes on the wall.  Word is spreading to those that can’t afford to eat that European is the place to go for a little kindness <3   I brought dd with me and had her fill out whatever she wanted on the sticky notes.  It was a great jumping off point to talk about how we are so fortunate and how not everyone is so lucky, as well as little ways we can help.

Anyhow, after dinner we decided to have our first fire of the season, and of course that means s’mores!

Apparently, we do s’mores ninja style here lol!  (And when I see this shot of their goofy moves, I can’t stop singing ‘everybody loves kung fu fighting…)

So I have to tell you that ds looks absolutely miserable here, but he truly wasn’t lol!  He had a great time, and wanted to help daddy with the ‘mushmallows’ but was a teensy bit nervous about the fire.

Ok, I do love a good detail shot, but this one is actually included for a reason.  Last year we picked up a few packages of this stuff that you are supposed to toss into the fire in order to change the colour of the flames.  We finally decided to use them tonight, and learned that they would work better if you place all three together instead of spreading them out.  You put the whole package in, you don’t open them up first, and you can’t cook over the fire once you’ve put the stuff in so we made sure everyone was full of s’mores and roasted marshmallows before adding it.  If you look closely, you can see a peek of green flame!

The sparklers would have been more effective if it was dark, but it doesn’t get dark until after 10pm and no way am I keeping the kids up that late lol!

You’ll notice I cheated this month, by making a couple small collages.  Sorry!

Now off to see what the rest of the photographers in our circle have been up to!  Up next is the fabulous Hannah Nielsen, so visit Hannah Neilsen Photography to see her story <3  You can also follow her work on Facebook!

  • Jennifer Carr - I love the dramatic light and black background against the fruit, especially the lemons!ReplyCancel

  • Kathy - I love how you styled these images! I think the watermelon is my favorite, but that might be because it’s my favorite fruit ever!ReplyCancel

I am honoured to join a group of amazing landscape photographers in this monthly blog circle.  You all know I’m not a landscape photographer by any stretch of the imagination, but I’m hoping some of the other photographers’ awesomeness will rub off on me;) Make sure to click on the link at the bottom of the post to follow the circle!

The following photos were taken with an Olympus OM2n, Portra 400, developed and scanned at FIND.  With the exception of the last 4, they were all taken from the balcony of our hotel during our recent family vacation in Duluth, MN.  The final 4 were taken at Split Rock Lighthouse on the way home (a gorgeous spot – definitely visit if you can!).
