We (my husband and I) consider swimming a life skill. S has been in lessons since she was tiny, but I’ll admit it became a struggle to get her to actually TRY, so we agreed to let her take a break and try something new (yoga, which was fantastic for her!). In the meantime, G started lessons. After some initial struggles getting him to stick his face in the water, he dove right in (haha – bad pun!).
While the pool isn’t the most beautiful, the light can be something special in there. The instructors have been wonderful with the kids, and I’m thrilled to see their progress. S decided she was ready to start lessons again, and quickly finished her level 3 and whipped through level 4. G is fearless, and it’s awesome to see his comfort with the water. We’re so proud of both kids <3
I definitely need to give a shout out to Learn to Swim Thunder Bay. It’s admittedly not cheap, but it is worth it to us to pay extra to have the kids in private lessons. (We tried group lessons back when we were living in Dryden and they were a disaster – S didn’t learn a thing, the pool was packed with kids and parents, it was chaos lol.)
It’s difficult to get images of S with her beautiful face in them. She is just at that age where she is exerting more control over photos (and justifiably) so sometimes I get the back of her head 😉 And that’s ok! I’ve started a new personal project based on ensuring her life is represented in our family albums, and it’s called the ‘In-Between Project.’
His jumps at the end are wild and brave and fun – just like him!
I’m so happy to have captured her brilliant smile at least once <3
